I am a little late to be saying Happy New Year, but since I didn’t do it at the beginning of the year, Happy New Year!

As with every year, things are already hectic. We’re moving at the end of the month and have been working for the past two weeks and a bit already and it feels like our time away visiting friends and family is a distant memory already.

These very things are what got me thinking about setting goals. Since it’s already more than halfway through January, hopefully, this post will help you to keep going strong or encourage you if you’re ready to tap out or have already done so.

Be You and Be Awesome!

We don’t really need a brand new year to go out there and achieve awesomeness, but it certainly makes it feel like a fresh start. It’s almost like a clean slate and there are all these possibilities and we can go full speed ahead.

The truth is that those possibilities are always there and waiting, we just need to grab onto them. So whatever it is that you want to do this year, go out and do it!

Here are a few tips that can make it a little less overwhelming:

Is it Really Important to You?

Last year, I wrote an optimistic post about what I wanted to achieve. I achieved most of those things. But there were things that I didn’t achieve because honestly, they weren’t really important to me. The biggest example there is learning to cook better.

I don’t enjoy cooking. I thought I would enjoy it more if I actually made food that tastes good. But, I don’t think that’s true. I baked a few times last year, and most of the time the goodies were delicious… other times not so much.

Despite the successful treats I baked, I didn’t ever truly enjoy the process. Having said that, I am a lot more confident when it comes to baking now which I will do for special occasions and at least now I know that cooking and baking isn’t my thing for real.

So, why do you want to achieve that specific goal? Is it important to you? The why is often what keeps us going when things get tough.

Less is More… At Least Some of the Time

When it comes to setting goals and achieving them, less is more. It’s not that you shouldn’t set big goals or ones that take longer. You just shouldn’t overburden yourself with things you don’t need to.

If you do set a big goal that you break it down into smaller goals so that you can stay motivated and so that it’s actually doable.

Courage is not the Absence of Fear

Sometimes, it’s not that we don’t want something, it’s that we’re too afraid to go and get it or make it happen. It’s all good and well to say you need to want it more than you fear it, but you can still be scared.

That’s where courage comes in. Franklin. D Roosevelt said it so well. Courage is going ahead even though you’re afraid. It’s more comfortable to relax in what you know, but generally, that’s not how we grow.

Sometimes, seeing that everything is still okay helps you see you can do it, or that yes, you may have failed, but you are still here and you will learn how to do it better or differently next time.

Take that first step. You are capable. The only way to achieve anything of worth is to take that first step, and then the next, and keep going.

Prioritise Your Goals in Life

Obviously, we all know that we need to prioritise our goals, or else life will always get in the way. It’s a sometimes sad fact that we need to specifically make time for things that are important to us because if we don’t, there will be no time for them.

This is often why when people set New Year’s resolutions, they fail… quickly. In the chaos of today’s world, we have so much to do. Saving our willpower for our resolutions, or trying to find the time to do them is tough.

But, if you want it badly enough, you’ll make time, you’ll keep at it, you’ll work hard, and you will achieve what you set out to do. Which brings me to my next point.

There’s a quote out there that says:

Success is doing what you know you need to do even when you don’t feel like it.

I don’t know exactly who said it or if those were the exact words, but it makes so much sense. There will be times where you just don’t feel like it, even when you are doing something that you are passionate about.

You need to look at the long game and remember why you set out to do this in the first place.


So let 2019 be an amazing year! By the time 31 Dec 2019 rolls around, it’s my sincerest wish that you can all look back on the year and feel that you’ve achieved what you set out to do and that 2019 was a year full of fun, happiness, and good health.
